The Ride of a Lifetime

It doesn’t matter how old you are, I refuse to believe that Disney doesn’t have a special place somewhere in your heart. Whether it’s a movie you watched as a kid (or last Friday night), a ride you remember while on a family vacation, or a picture of you wearing those iconic Mickey Mouse ears, we all have a moment in our lives where Disney was involved.

While this book was written towards what was supposed to have been the end of his leadership, Bob Iger is officially back as CEO of Disney and this read in a way helps explain why. After succeeding Michael Eisner as CEO in 2005, Bob was responsible for some MASSIVE growth milestones. He led major acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel Entertainment, Lucasfilm, and the entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox. These acquisitions as well as expanding theme park resorts in Asia and greater investments to grow Disney+ and Hulu took Disney from being a $48 billion dollar company in 2005 to a $257 billion dollar company in 2021.

It takes a special person to lead a company like Disney. It takes someone with extreme imagination, world class business acumen, and someone who can see things through the lens of a 3-year-old watching The Little Mermaid, an 11 year old about to board their first ride at Walt Disney World, and a 56 year old seasoned investor.

If history is any indicator, Bob is that special someone. He led Disney to new heights during his 1st tenure as the conductor of this iconic brand and he is now back to lead once again. Enjoy this read and let’s see if his 2nd tenure leads to another one!
