Do You Believe in Miracles? Yes!

I am going to assume when reading that quote that most people out there (sports fans at least) know exactly where this came from. This is one of the most famous lines in American Olympic broadcast history as the great Al Michaels called the matchup between the U.S. Olympic hockey team and the dominate-on-ice, Soviets.

While I knew what event led to this famous line, what I didn’t actually know was that Al Michaels was the one who said it! After all these years of watching and listening to him on Monday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, NBA Playoffs, and other olympic events, I had no idea that these famous words were spoken by the the great commentator himself. This is one of the many things that I learned about Al Michaels when reading his Autobiography, “You Can’t Make This Up: Miracles, Memories, and the Perfect Marriage of Sports and Television.” Al has been commentating sports on radio and television for over 50 years! How has he done it you might ask. Well, another interesting and random fact about Al Michaels is he has never eaten a single vegetable in his entire life! If you told me I could make a 50 year career out of watching and talking about sports, all while never having to eat a single vegetable for my health, SIGN ME UP!

These are just a couple of interesting highlights that stuck out to me when reading his book. While I might not recommend this book for everyone, I certainly recomend it for the hard core sports fans out there. There are stories that include Bob Iger, O.J. Simpson, Bob Costas, John Madden, and many more interesting and world changing people (Some of whom we will highlight through their books at a later time).
